Some exciting developments are coming to Monarch Park! 🦋
The Kaipātiki Local Board has approved the design of an Enchanted Forest area, Forest Floor Trail and Butterfly Meadow area! Construction is expected to begin early next year.

• The Forest Floor Trail will be in the northern bush area of the park, and will include a log crossing over a stream, timber trail with balance beams and poles, a “log scramble” using a fallen willow tree, and a gateway feature. 🌲🏞️
• The Enchanted Forest will include a refurbishment of the existing natural play area in the southern bush area, and the addition of two teepee frames and a stockpile for hut building, a butterfly & bee apartment, 2 weta galleries and a gecko & skink “Air BnB”. 🦎 🐝🌲
• The Butterfly Meadow at the entrance to the Enchanted Forest will provide a mix of tall and low nectar shrubs to encourage butterflies and bees, and several butterfly & bee apartments. 🦋 🐝

This project is the first of several nature trails that the Local Board is considering over the coming years, and I’d like to thank the Friends of Monarch Park and Glenfield Lions Club for their input into the early stages.
