I’m proud that despite various budget cuts and pressures over the last year, the Kaipātiki Local Board have been able to increase operational investment into restoring our environment as it comes under ever-greater pressures. This includes a significant increase in funding for two of our largest environmental groups, Pest Free Kaipātiki and Kaipātiki Project, who are doing invaluable work in our parks and streams.

The Kaipātiki Local Board has also been working closely with the Devonport-Takapuna Local Board and local environmental groups and council staff to improve water quality in the Wairau Estuary, which flows from Totaravale and Wairau through to Milford. As a result of our advocacy and support from our councillors, we were able to ensure that the Wairau Estuary was included in the list of specific areas that will benefit from the Water Quality Targeted Rate over the next 10 years.
