Birkenhead War Memorial Park: Today the Kaipatiki Local Board approved the design for a shared pedestrian/cycle path to connect the two halves of the park, creating a new recreational route allowing travel between Mahara Ave and Recreation Drive. The new concrete path will follow a similar route as the existing gravel service lane. It will include swales, riprap and a small concrete bridge in the lower area to provide for waterflow.
In addition, the path will provide access to a Māra Hūpara Traditional Māori play area that is planned to be built in the vicinity (as per the park masterplan adopted last year).
