I’m pleased to finally check this one off! These new signs have been installed at Chelsea Bay Beach/Telephone Road Reserve to make it clearer where the 24/7 off-leash area for dogs begins and ends.

Back in 2014, the Kaipātiki Local Board held dog rule hearings and heard about on-going problems with dogs running from the off-leash area into neighbouring properties, so we made the decision to install a dog-proof gate. But no money was ever assigned to it…
Fast-forward to 2018 and I managed to secure some budget for the project. It turned out that a gate won’t work due to the terrain, so the Local Board instead decided to install information signs with maps at each end of the open area. The maps also help to clarify the boundary of the park and private properties as that isn’t obvious when you are there.
