Last week the Kaipatiki Local Board​ approved a 24/7 liquor ban at Downing St Domain, Glenfield, after reviewing evidence of disorder at the park, and hearing from Snr Constable Paul Donaldson of the Police.

The new liquor ban will enable the police to deal with anyone who is drinking or causing issues in the park while under the influence of alcohol.

For many years, there have been shopping trolleys dumped in the park after transporting liquor. I recently counted 14 trolleys throughout the park, including dumped in the stream. There are also often beer cans, bottles, and broken glass around the pergola area, and has been regular damage to the seats, pergola, and rubbish bins.
