Would you support holding a public Guy Fawkes fireworks event on the North Shore? Please answer Yes/No in the my poll on Facebook here.
If we are serious about reducing the number of fireworks incidents and stress, then we should be holding more public displays as an alternative to private events.
I’ve been having some initial discussions on whether it would be feasible to hold a public fireworks display on the North Shore next year, and if so, where it could be held. One example that it could be modelled on is the fabulous The Trusts Spooks & Sparks Fireworks Extravaganza held out west, that has 20 mins of fireworks, a laser show, motorbike stuntshow, dancers, fairground rides, food carts, bouncy castles, etc. It is funded through ticket sales and sponsorship.
Meanwhile, Auckland Council is considering lobbying the Government to ban all private fireworks. If that happens, then there is even more reason to increase the number of public events. Have your say on that here.
Note: The above is my view and not necessarily that of the Kaipatiki Local Board.
