The Kaipātiki Local Board has shown its commitment to the future of Northcote Wharf and ferry service by making an in-principle allocation of up to $2 million towards an all-weather upgrade of the wharf. Hopefully this will help to show Auckland Transport how serious the Local Board is about reinstating the wharf, and securing the future of the ferry service.
We are still awaiting the outcome of the condition assessment of the wharf, but it is unlikely to be a quick or cheap fix. And it would be a lost opportunity to simply rebuild the wharf as it was, as the most unreliable public transport link in Auckland.
