On Wednesday, the Kaipātiki Local Board opposed a recommendation from Panuku Development to sell Rosie Bolt Reserve (R25 Alfred St), Northcote Point. Rosie Bolt Reserve is on the corner of Alfred St and Nelson Ave, and is named for former neighbour Rosie Bolt (wife of former Northcote councillor Michael Bolt) who fought to keep the land as public open space.

The final decision lies with the Finance & Performance Committee, made up of the Mayor, Councillors and Independent Māori Statutory Board members.
Councillors have directed Panuku to identify parcels of public land across Auckland that they view as being “surplus” so that they can be sold to help temporarily plug the gap in Council’s budget. Every month, Auckland loses more and more public land.
So far, there has not been any public consultation on the proposed sale of Rosie Bolt Reserve, as required under the Local Government Act; only consultation with internal Council departments and the Local Board.
