The deconstruction and demolition of the condemned grandstand at Birkenhead War Memorial Park will finally begin on 15 October  The demolition work is due to be completed within four weeks. Council is aiming for at least 95% of the the salvaged material to be reused.
The type of replacement building will be determined as part of the Kaipatiki Local Board‘s masterplan project. In the meantime, the site of the grandstand will likley be reinstated as a temporary metal overflow carpark.
