Marlborough Park Spacenet Finally Reopens
Glenfield Community Board Media Release
31 May 2010

“I am very pleased to announce that one year after it was installed, the spacenet in Marlborough Park is finally open again,” said John Gillon, Chairman of the Glenfield Community Board.

The spacenet is a giant, strong climbing frame that children of all ages love. It is one of two that the Glenfield Community Board have installed in Glenfield, the other being in Kaipatiki Park.

The Marlborough Park spacenet was installed at the end of May 2009 but was later fenced off after a complaint about the bogginess of the surrounding area. Despite the ground drying out and pressure from the Community Board, the spacenet remained closed off until drainage and pathway projects were completed at the end of last week.

“The Glenfield Community Board is extremely happy that the spacenet has finally been reopened, however we do feel that temporary measures could have been put in place to see it open during our Christmas Gala event last year and again over the Summer months when the ground had dried out” said John Gillon.

The reopening of the spacenet continues the enhancement of Glenfield parks by the Glenfield Community Board, which includes the installation of adult exercise equipment and pre-school play equipment in Marlborough Park; a spacenet in Kaipatiki Park; and swings, spinners and other equipment in Linley Reserve, Spinella Reserve, Monarch Park and Stanaway Reserve.

Future Parks Projects: Fruit trees are currently being planted in various Glenfield parks for the nutritional and educational benefit of children. We are currently scoping the installation of exercise machines in Normanton Reserve; BBQs in our parks; and new footpaths in Marlborough Park, Lynn Reserve and Windy Ridge Reserve.
