It was a privilege to attend the dawn blessing of the revamped Te Onewa Pā (Stokes Point Reserve) under the Auckland Harbour Bridge.
At the ceremony, Ngai Tai ki Tamaki and Te Kawerau a Maki elders unveiled a pouwhenua, carved from heart Totara by Reuben Kirkwood.
The upgrade work includes a new accessible walkway, replacement of the pedestrian bridge, fencing around the point, planting and landscaping.
The area is now open to the public, but NZTA are currently only opening the gate from 7.30am to 4.30pm. The area will be transferring to Auckland Council soon.
